UPDATE: Amazon Withdraws Pedophile Guide

Media Release 11 November 2010
Family First NZ is welcoming Amazon.com’s action of removing a book entitled “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure – A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct.”

“Since making a call for kiwi families to boycott Amazon.com, families have been contacting Family First NZ to say that they have notified Amazon. The NZ response along with opposition from around the world has forced Amazon to respond,” says Mr McCoskrie

“It does show just how vigilant we need to be even with companies who one would expect would show some better judgement. It was disappointing that Amazon tried to defend the book by contradicting themselves when they said ‘Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.’ It appears Amazon may not be aware that pedophilia and child abuse is a crime.”

“This book was sending a dangerous message and undermining the social prohibition against seeing children as sexual objects and sexually attractive, and showed that profits were more important than protecting the wellbeing of our children. It’s unfathomable that a book normalising paedophilia should be available to purchase on such a mainstream site.”

I’m pretty shocked that Amazon.com are selling such books as the one promoting paedophilia. It makes me wonder about my responsibility in this situation, because we have bought a lot of books through them. Do I want to support an organization who obviously has no boundaries at all? No. Am I prepared to boycott them and try and buy elsewhere? That’s what I need to think about. Thanks for letting me know.
