Porirua’s tills will be silent this Easter Sunday.
There will be no option for the city’s retailers to open after Porirua City Council voted to keep shops closed on the public holiday.
The council called for public submissions in March after a law change in 2016 allowed councils to come up with their own policies.
A council spokeswoman said consultation resulted in 86 submissions, 66 per cent in favour of keeping shops closed.
Deputy Mayor Izzy Ford said the council saw a strong theme from both businesses and employees.
“After some robust discussion it was awesome to have the council vote in support of the majority.”
