A woman told police searching her home for stolen goods that she was using cannabis to ease morning sickness.

The police had gone to Pania Ngaroimata Moanaroa’s coastal Taranaki home on June 3 to arrest her partner on outstanding arrest warrants, but while they were there noticed a 55-inch TV and number of other items that had been reported stolen, police prosecutor sergeant Steve Hickey said.

They returned later that day with a search warrant and found numerous stolen items at the property.

While searching, police were confronted with a strong smell of cannabis smoke, and deodorant spray mixed with it in an attempt to disguise it.

They also found two cannabis bongs hidden in a drawer.

She admitted the bongs were hers and that she smoked cannabis to alleviate morning sickness as she was several weeks pregnant.
