Following on from my blog last week “How many times have we heard this??”
CYF were investigating baby before death
ONE News 16 Nov 2011
Child Youth and Family has revealed a two-year-old boy at the centre of a homicide probe was on its radar for the past month, but that it could not find him. Police launched a homicide investigation following the death of James Joseph Ruhe Lawrence at his home in suburban Orakei in Auckland on Monday. The death follows that of a one-year-old Otahuhu boy in Starship Hospital on November 6 following head injuries. ”Baby James first came to Child, Youth and Family’s notice four weeks ago,” CYF northern regional director Grant Bennett said in a statement last night. ”We consulted with other agencies, visited the home several times and were actively attempting to find mother and child. Despite this we had been unable to speak with his mother or sight James to check on his wellbeing.
….While police continue that investigation, two separate High Court cases each involving the alleged murder of an Auckland baby are pending. Kulukora Akau’ola, 22, of Otahuhu was charged with murder and concealing her baby’s remains in her backyard. The body was discovered in June this year. She is due to appear in the High Court in Auckland today. The murder trial for the man accused of killing six-month-old Cezar Taylor of Mangere East is set for next week. James Allan Hemana, 30, is charged with murder and failing to provide the necessities of life after Cezar died from severe head injuries in July last year.
