New Zealand Programme Asks: ‘Do Social Media Platforms Have Too Much Power?’

As we are all grappling with the power of Big Tech, a New Zealand based group has spoken with an IT expert to discuss this issue in more detail.

Donald Trump has been deleted from both Facebook and Twitter, many Christian groups have had their pages suspended, and just recently, a pro-life Christian website, Life Site News, has been permanently deleted by Facebook for reportedly carrying conspiracy theories relating to Covid 19. In addition, Youtube has completely deleted the group’s catalog of videos.

Free speech is apparently becoming a thing of the past, and as Christians have a message that the majority of the world does not want to hear, we are at serious risk of seeing any differences of opinion being silenced by the same groups that have the ability to spread an organization’s message.

During last year’s US presidential issues, many conservative voters abandoned mainstream social media in favor of the more friendly platform Parler. However, Parler was effectively cancelled when Google and Apple removed the platform from their APP stores. Its web hosts, Amazon Web Services, which is owned by Amazon, also removed the site from its server overnight, without even advising their client.
