The Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Court pilot has been extended for a further three years.
The AODT Court pilot, which began in November 2012 in the Waitakere and Auckland District Courts, aims to help reduce alcohol and drug use, reoffending and imprisonment.
It identifies offenders whose alcohol and other drug dependency is behind a pattern of serious offending and diverts them from prison into treatment under the close supervision of the Court.“
The harm associated with alcohol and other drug abuse remains one of the major drivers of crime and social harm in this country,” says Justice and Courts Minister Amy Adams.
