WARNING TO ALL – Jacinda Ardern: Abortion ‘shouldn’t be a crime’

abortion bothJacinda Ardern: Abortion ‘shouldn’t be a crime’
Stuff co.nz 4 September 2017
Family First Comment: Thanks for the clarification, Jacinda.
Apparently the murder of an unborn child should no longer be seen as ‘murder’. Disturbing. Makes all your platitudes and “relentless positivity” about child abuse and child welfare completely null and void.
It’s all about choice…. Apparently.
Labour leader Jacinda Ardern says abortion should not be in the Crimes Act and she would change the law.
Access to abortion is governed by the Crimes Act 1961 and the Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act 1977.
The law has not been changed since 1977, although there have been calls for it to be liberalised.
During the Newshub debate on Monday night, Ardern said she would change the law if she became Prime Minister.
“It shouldn’t be in the Crimes Act. People need to be able to make their own decision.”
“People need to be able to make their own decisions,” said Ardern.
“I want women who want access to be able to have it as a right.”
Prime Minster Bill English, a conservative Catholic, said he supported the law as it was and he would be opposed to liberalisation.
He described the current set-up, where a woman has to get a certificate from two separate medical professionals saying she needed an abortion, was “broadly acceptable” and was working.
However, English said it would be a “conscience decision”, so his MP could vote freely on it.

Calls for ‘complex’ abortion laws to be overhauled: ‘It’s bizarre that abortion is still under the Crimes Act’
TVNZ One News 6 September 2017
The chief executive of Family Planning thinks it’s “bizarre” that abortion is still under the Crimes Act in New Zealand.
The issue of abortion was recently raised in Monday night’s leaders debate, with the National and Labour leaders both having differing views on the matter. Bill English is in favour of keeping the law as it is, with Jacinda Ardern wanting to decriminalise abortion.

Jackie Edmond chief executive of Family Planning told TVNZ1’s Breakfast that the current law around abortion has been in place since 1977 and it’s time for a change.
Christian lobby group Family First says that any change to decriminalise abortion would lead to late term abortions or aborting on the basis of disability.

Ms Edmond believes that wouldn’t be the case as there would still be robust systems in place and decriminalisation in other countries hasn’t led to those outcomes.
