Most revellers who had their drugs analysed in a pill testing trial at a music festival said they would still take the substances, despite potentially deadly tablets being smuggled into the event.
The second pill-testing trial held at Canberra’s Groovin’ The Moo festival in April, saw 230 party-goers have their drugs tested.
A study by Australian National University found less than 30 per cent of those who had their pills tested were put off taking the drugs or planned to reduce their intake.
However the seven people who were told the MDMA they had bought contained the potentially fatal chemical N-ethyl pentylone all decided to dispose of the pills, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The study found that explanations of what is in the drug should be clearer as some users thought they were getting their drugs tested for purity and not just content.
The study comes after Glenn McRae, 24, died after taking MDMA, cocaine and GHB at the Strawberry Fields rave festival on December 1.
The young reveller was taken by friends to the festival medical tent after suffering a suspected heart attack.
Paramedics worked for more than an hour, but the cocktail of drugs proved deadly.
