Failing to help media with their wokeness

On Sunday, the saga of Green MP Darleen Tana was covered by TVNZ’s Q&A. What you quickly realise is that when things are scripted, it’s much easier to be woke because you just read the script even if it doesn’t make sense. But like Kamala Harris, when you go off-script, it all goes to custard. And that’s exactly what happened on TVNZ despite their best efforts. The Law Commission has them in their sights!

TRANSCRIPT:

UH OH THE MEDIA HAVE FAILED IN THEIR DARLEEN WOKENESS

Last week I told you all about of Green MP Darleen Tana who the Greens are trying to remove from their party.

And I tried I really did I tried to help both the politicians and the media with their wokeness but the misgendering has continued. And its not becoming real confusing. Im hoping you can help clear things up for me

Now let me say from the outset this is not an attack on Darleen Tana personally. I dont care what happens between her and the Greens. But this whole debacle is a perfect example of just how confusing it becomes when youre trying to be woke.

And if the woke cant get it right, how can the rest of us who are totally normal.

So to recap briefly

Darleen Tana is not a she. No way. She is a they / them. You’ll never walk alone.

“My pronouns are they / them. I never walk alone.”

The media thought she was taking the piss, but nope –

Asked by Stuff to clarify pronouns, Tana simply repeated in a text message, “Because I never walk alone. Thank you.”

Now remember my new word which I really hope is the Dictionary word of the year for 2024.

Misgenderwoked (that’s my new word – misgenderwoked – misgendering someone by trying to be woke but not being woke enough).

Now remember when we last talked about this that I explained that the media obviously got told off and got told to stop misgendering her.

Here’s Stuff’s article

Darleen Tana writes to Green members arguing to keep their seat

1News

Former Green MP Darleen Tana says they have no intention of resigning

And even Newstalk ZB got in on the woke

“Witch hunt”: Darleen Tana says attempts to get them to resign were “premeditated”

And the NZ Herald

Former Green, now independent MP, Darleen Tana has told their former party they “will not be resigning” and that they will fight attempts to use the waka-jumping law to oust them from Parliament.

But Chloe Swarbrick, Corin Dann from Radio NZ, Mike Hosking from Newstalk ZB and others kept misgendering her. Even Chris Hipins from Labour. I know his days are numbered.

If even wokesters like the media and left wing politicians can’t get it consistently right, how will normal NZers like you and me get it right.

Especially when we have no intention to tell a biological lie.

The reason the media and politicians struggle with all of this is because it simply isn’t normal. It’s artificial – it’s verbal gymnastics of the English language. And now they’re finding out just what wokeness means.

But on Sunday, the saga of Darleen Tana was covered by Q&A and Jack Tame and 1News.

And what you realise is that when things are scripted, its easier to be woke. Cause you just read the script even if it doesnt make sense.

But its like Kamala Harris when you go OFF script, it all goes to custard. Lets call this misgenderwoking as The Kamala effect. Going to custard when you go off script.

So lets watch a few bits of the interview.

Green party delegates are set to decide  whether or not to invoke the so-called  waka-jumping law to kick former green MP Darleen Tana out of parliament. Tana is vowing to fight on to try and remain an MP and says  they’re considering legal options if their former party colleagues pull the trigger

.theyre considering legal options

Great start Jack. But thats the teleprompter, remember.

But then the reporter Phena Owen reminds us of the personal pronouns. But you see, advocates for this verbal English gymnastics of pronouns say that they’re for trans and nonbinary people. But Darleen isn’t non-binary. Her pronouns are about her tupuna or her ancestors being with her all the time. So she’s a…. group?

Since the inquiry into Tana’s family business affairs centering around migrant employees, Tana resigned from the greens, has become an independent MP and changed their pronouns. The plurality comes from my tupuna are literally with me all the time so I’ve never felt alone. People see me sitting in that house in the corner on my own they might feel aroha. Please don’t I am all good.

whether they have a future

Theyre busy sitting in on select committees..

Just one of them.

But Dday for Darleen is fast approaching. It’ll determine whether they have a future in Parliament. In the meantime they’re busy sitting in on select committees and has been drafting a private members bill on Ocean health.

But then things go a little to custard. The Kamala effect. We go off script.

And its by a Law Professor no less. Count the misgendering.

Law professor Andrew Geddis suspects Tana has sought legal advice. The particular judgment that she points to the judge actually upholds the use of the party hopping law in that case on the basis that the MP in question resigned their membership of the Party by accident. Here we have an MP who has deliberately resigned her membership of the party so the Judgment she points to doesn’t actually really support her position at all.

Shocking. Four times!!!!!

And one of the Pacifika Green members who resigned because of the treatment of Darleen then misgenders her got her back.

This former Pacifica greens member reckons there will be people voting to keep Tana in. I think Dalene knows that there are people who got her back.

Oops.

And then our lawyer is back. Now remember, he has been misgendering Darleen Tana but then he refers to they dont have strong legal grounds to win and political battle they are going to have to fight..

Who is he referring to?! The Greens or Darleen. Because in this new woke world, theyre both they. See if you can work it out.

Darleen Tana could go to court and try to bring an action. Two problems with that is first of all it’s going to cost her a lot of money. Second problem is I don’t think they have strong legal grounds to win and also there’s this added problem of parliamentary privilege. That may stop the courts even being able to look at this. I really think this is a political battle that they are going to have to fight. The legal avenues are very very limited for them.

Im confused. Are you?

In an accompanying article, 1News said

Speaking to Q+A, Otago University law professor, Andrew Geddis thinks there are two problems for Tana if they decide to go to court to take action. One is the cost and the other is that he doesn’t think they have strong legal grounds to win.

So either theyre putting the wokeism in Geddis, OR theyre confused also!

They then quote Geddis saying:

“There’s this added problem of Parliamentary privilege, which may stop the courts from looking at this. This is a political battle, the legal avenues are very limited for Tana.”

But he says the legal avenues are very limited for them

Perhaps he got his pronouns sorted but only by the end of the interview.

And just finally, Darleen says weve got work to do. Is she referring to herself, or her team? Who knows?

And next Sunday Darleen Tana will be in Northland with her people. I’ll  be surrounded by whanau and hapu and iwi who know who I am, who understand the skills I have and uh know that well we’ve just got work to do.

Now the classic part is that in the article to accompany the Q&A coverage, they only quote statements that dont have those naughty (biologically and truthful) words like she and her so that the whole article can be woke-as.

It must be exhausting!

Why does all this matter?

As I said this is not about Darleen Tana.

This is about misgenderwoking and what happens when even woke people go off script.

The Law Commission are currently asking for submissions on the issue of whether transgender and non-binary people and people who never walk alone like Darleen should have special protections under the Human Rights Act and whether those people who believe in biological truth and dont believe in gender ideology should be deemed to be discriminating and therefore subject to possible punishments.

They have a whole section on misgendering. In fact, misgendering is mentioned almost 50 times in the Law Commission paper. They say

We think a New Zealand court or tribunal could hold that persistent misgendering and deadnaming was in breach of Part 1A. (para 17.47)

the [Human Rights Act] could stipulate that misgendering and deadnaming are forms of discrimination that are unlawful. (para 17.62)

But if the woke cant get it right, us normal people are stuffed, arent we.

And thats it from me er, us.
