Christian Doctor under attack for his beliefs

A doctor, with a wife and two young children, has been suspended by the Medical Board Australia, and has been out of work for two years. His crime? Was he caught raping a patient, stealing medicines, or fiddling with the books? No, he is being ‘cancelled’ for sharing his Christian beliefs, not with patients but simply on his own personal Facebook page. The case has similarities with what took place in the sacking of Israel Folou by Rugby Australia.

Dr Jereth Kok is a GP who also happens to be a Christian, a “follower of Jesus”. He’s had no complaints about his medical practice in 15 years treating thousands of patients. He’s certainly not guilty of any malpractice, but instead he did something much worse in the eyes of the Medical Board Australia (MBA): he dared to post his point-of-view and Christian beliefs on his own personal Facebook page.

The MBA doesn’t seem to tolerate conservative Christian viewpoints, so they started investigating Jereth for 9 months, but didn’t even tell him he was being investigated – something which is actually illegal. They even hired a specialist company to do a forensic ‘dragnet’ search on everything he’d ever posted, to see if anything conflicted with what’s deemed acceptable by the MBA. Note, these were not opinions on medical matters – but on social and political topics, basically a range of beliefs shared by many Christians and political conservatives alike. What the MBA found was that Jereth Kok said things which people are supposedly no longer able to say in liberal Australia, things like: marriage is between a man and a womanpro-life not pro-abortionchildren have a right to be raised by their own mother and father; and radical political Islam is something we must take seriously.

For saying verboten things like that, the MBA has decided that he is now public enemy No. 1, and he MUST be punished severely. And keep in mind the details of this shocking case – NO complaints were ever made by any of his patients or by his colleagues. He was fully professional in his work, and he treated all of his patients with dignity and respect.

So one Friday afternoon last year, while consulting with patients, Jereth was suddenly given notice that he was going to be summarily removed from practice to protect the “public interest”. Then after attending a hearing the following week, at which he was not asked any questions; his registration was suspended, meaning that he could no longer work, could no longer provide care or even speak to his patients.
