Climate Change Anxiety treated with Psychedelic Drugs

Climate Change Anxiety treated with Psychedelic Drugs (LSD, MDMA etc.) ??? 😳

There have been numerous articles appearing in mainstream media, promoting the use of psychedelic drugs such as LSD, MDMA (Ecstasy) and Ketamine (a common horse tranquilliser) for the treatment of mental health, including “climate change anxiety” – yup there’s such a thing, apparently. While these psychedelic drugs might initially demonstrate some therapeutic benefits in certain cases, the risks are too huge. Many doctors are deeply concerned that such treatments only mask the underlying symptoms while pushing the root causes further below the surface. There’s also the risk of dangerous side-effects.

In a recent Washington Post article, an advocate for psychedelic medicine said this…

“Many of us are feeling a sense of powerlessness and despair over climate change and its harmful effects. As a psychiatrist, I have noticed a growing trend among patients in my private practice suffering from what mental health professionals are calling eco-anxiety and climate grief.”

“Psychedelic therapies may have a growing role in supporting this unique trauma and grief. By exploring and utilizing these tools in our sessions, some of my patients have experienced a reduction of their anxiety symptoms, more acceptance and awareness of their emotions and increased energy and motivation toward environmental activism.”

So these drugs are resulting in “motivation toward environmental activism.” Is that really a benefit?

This author goes on to say that there’s been “a surge in research into psychedelic therapies to treat psychiatric illnesses” and that “numerous clinical trials have shown that psychedelic therapies, namely psilocybin and MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) are safe and effective for conditions such as PTSD, depression, end-of-life anxiety and alcoholism.”

Yet she only sites one study titled “From Egoism to Ecosim”, which concludes an “association between psychedelic use and nature relatedness.” 😳😳😳

So while we are on the subject of climate change, what exactly is eco-anxiety and climate grief? Well, here’s a definition linked within in the same Washington Post article…

“The Climate Mental Health Network (CMHN) recognizes climate change and mental health as intersectional issues that are inseparable from environmental justice, women’s rights, disability justice, Indigenous justice, decolonization, and anti-oppression efforts underway across the world. The disproportionate impact of the overlapping global climate and mental health crises falls on Black, Brown, and other communities of color in Western countries, Indigenous and First Nations peoples, LGBTQI+ peoples, persons identifying as women, and historically colonized peoples across the world.” 😳😳😳

Oh dear, lots of Climate Alarmism amplified with Critical Race Theory, Gender Ideology, and Intersectionality. Best to ignore this narrative completely.

Back to the subject of psychedelic drugs, here’s just some of the dangerous and unwanted side effects, listed by American Addiction Centers:

  • hallucinations
  • persistent psychosis and psychotic episodes
  • tremors
  • paranoia
  • anxiety and depression
  • rapid heart rate, increased body temperature and high blood pressure
  • liver problems

Seems like reason enough to stay well clear of such drugs.
