FAMILY MATTERS: How to respond to the ‘transgender trend’
Stella O’Malley experienced gender dysphoria throughout her childhood and wanted to identify as a boy, but when she hit puberty, she realised that biology was “bigger than me”. She is very grateful that she was not put on puberty blockers. But today, similar children are being put on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
As the transgender debate has heated up, Stella knew that as a psychotherapist, she had a contribution to make based on her own experience.
Stella O’Malley is based in Ireland and holds a B.A. in Counselling and Psychotherapy, an M.A. in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and diplomas in Youth Studies, Psychometric Testing and Gender Identity counselling.
She is an expert on Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria – the epidemic of youth coming out as trans ‘out of the blue’ due to social contagion and mental illness. She is also the founder of Genspecthttps://genspect.org/, an international alliance of parent and professional groups whose aim is to advocate for parents of gender-questioning children and young people.
