Hilton Ban On In-Room Porn Welcomed

Family First NZ is welcoming a decision by Hilton Hotels & Resorts to change its policies in order to remove all on-demand pornographic videos from all of its properties worldwide. This will include hotels in Auckland, Queenstown and Taupo.

“This is a great decision for families and for the protection of children. But it is also a great stand against sexual exploitation and recognising the harms of pornography addiction,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.

“This decision follows similar decisions by Google which changed its policy to prohibit pornographic ads and any ads that link to websites with sexually explicit content on them, and Facebook which has taken steps to improve efforts to block and report child pornography on its site.”

“Society is finally being woken up to the fact that pornography is harmful and leads to addictions, broken marriages, increased sexual violence, child sexual abuse, sex trafficking and prostitution,” says Mr McCoskrie.

“Hilton is making a great choice not to profit from the harms of hardcore pornography. We now call on other hotel chains to adopt a similar policy.”

Family First has previously called for changes after a distraught family contacted Family First after their eight year old was able to view explicit sexual acts being shown on the movie channels available in their hotel room.
