A decision to banish hardcore porn from Hilton hotel rooms will have its private dissenters but a Christian lobby group says it’s high time the chain gave smut the flick.
Family First has praised Hilton Hotels and Resorts for removing all on-demand pornographic videos from its properties, including hotels in Auckland, Queenstown and Taupo.
The move was announced by America’s National Center on Sexual Exploitation which commended the hotel group for “no longer seeking profits from hardcore pornography”.
As a show of approval, the centre removed Hilton Hotels from the dirty dozen, its list of 12 large corporates deemed to be fuelling sexual exploitation.
New Zealand’s conservative family values group Family First says Hilton’s decision would help protect families, children and pornography addicts.
“Society is finally being woken up to the fact that pornography is harmful and leads to addictions, broken marriages, increased sexual violence, child sexual abuse, sex trafficking and prostitution,” said the group’s national director Bob McCoskrie.
Mr McCoskrie said he’d been calling for these changes since he was approached by distraught parents whose eight-year-old had inadvertently watched porn in the family’s hotel room.
It was now time for all other hotel chains to follow suit, he said.

Pay-per-view pornography a thing of the past for Taranaki hotels

Long gone are the days of ordering a risque movie from your hotel room, especially in Taranaki.
In fact, most guests staying in the region never had the option of in-room adult movies from the outset.
News that Hilton Hotels and Resorts would remove all on-demand pornographic videos from its properties, including hotels in Auckland, Queenstown and Taupo, was a surprise to Taranaki’s hoteliers who said they couldn’t believe it was still on offer.
In a statement this week, a Hilton Worldwide spokesperson said pay-per-view adult entertainment did not align with their future thinking.
“While the vast majority of our properties already do not offer this content today, this content will be phased out of all other hotels subject to the terms of their contracts.”

Christian lobby group lauds Hilton chain for dropping in-room porn

A Christian lobby group in New Zealand has lauded the Hilton chain for its decision to drop on-demand pornographic videos from its room packages.
Family First hailed Hilton Hotels and Resorts’ move to make its rooms porn-free. The decision affected all Hilton hotels in Auckland, Taupo, and Queenstown, according to The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH).
The American group National Centre on Sexual Exploitation announced the Hilton chain’s move. It also praised the company for ceasing to seek earnings from “hardcore pornography.” To demonstrate its approval of the new decision, the group dropped Hilton Hotels from its list of the 12 biggest corporations that fuel sexual exploitation, the report details.
Family First calls Hilton’s decision a move that would shield kids, families, and porn addicts from the untoward effects of pornography and sexual exploitation. National director Bob McCoskrie said pornography could harm marriages and child development, and lead to sexual violence and abuse.
“Society is finally being woken up to the fact that pornography is harmful and leads to addictions, broken marriages, increased sexual violence, child sexual abuse, sex trafficking and prostitution,” SMH quotes McCoskrie .
According to McCoskrie , he began lobbying the change since anxious parents told him about their eight-year-old son who had watched on-demand porn videos in their hotel room.
