Media Hide Truth To Protect Ideology

One of the big advantages of the decline of mainstream media outlets and the rising up of new ones – and also social media – is that we are no longer beholden to the narrative being shoved down by the legacy media outlets. We now have media sources including X and Facebook and DailyWire and even Christian based news sites where we can test what we’ve being fed by the predominantly left wing legacy media.
And that was very evident last week with the tragic case of the shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis which killed two children and wounded more than a dozen others.
The media underplayed the truth in order to protect an ideology.
The trans-identifying shooter who killed two children and wounded more than a dozen others at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday wrote in a journal entry that he was “tired of being trans” and regretted that he “brain-washed” himself.
A journal reportedly belonging to Robin Westman, 23, who was born Robert Westman, revealed some of the dark thoughts of the gunman who opened fire on students and staff while they were attending morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School. The journal, which was written in a mix of Russian Cyrillic script and English, indicated that Westman held regrets about identifying as transgender, The New York Post reported.
“I only keep [long hair] because it is pretty much my last shred of being trans. I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself,” Westman reportedly wrote.
“I can’t cut my hair now as it would be [an] embarrassing defeat, and it might be a concerning change of character that could get me reported,” he added. “It just always gets in my way. I will probably chop it on the day of the attack.”
In another section of his journal, Westman reportedly wrote, “I don’t want to dress girly all the time but I guess sometimes I really like it. I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man.”…
In videos posted hours before the shooting by an account tied to Westman, political and religious messages are seen written on weapons. The messages included “Kill Donald Trump” and “Where’s your God?”

A trans-identifying gunman who shot up a Catholic school’s church this week blamed transgenderism, weed, and his mother’s disapproval for his mental illness, according to newly uncovered writings…
“Gender and weed f***ed up my head,” Westman wrote. “I wish I never tried experimenting with either. Don’t let your kids smoke weed or change gender until they are like seventeen.”
This is not the first mass shooter that has identified as trans. Matt Walsh highlights some recent examples
- In 2018, Snochia Moseley, a self-identified transgender individual, killed several people at a Rite Aid distribution facility in Maryland.
- In 2019, a self-identified “transgender boy” named Alec McKinney masterminded a school shooting that left one student dead and several more injured.
- In 2022, Anderson Lee Aldrich shot up a nightclub, killing five people and injuring 26. His lawyers said in court that he was “non-binary” and used “they/them” pronouns,
- In 2023 a trans-identifying mass shooter killed three nine-year-old children and three adults at a Christian school in Tennessee – the Covenant School in Nashville.
Granted – there haven’t been a large number of mass shootings by transgender people – based on numbers.
But it’s when you look at the rates based on population size where it really shows.
The proportion of that particular subgroup has a high rate of offences. And interestingly, a high rate for biological women who want to be men. Maybe the testosterone surge?
The left wing media (which is virtually all of the legacy media) worked hard to avoid the focus being on the ideology of the shooter, so the coverage focused not around the shooter and the harms of transgenderism and the underlying mental health issues, or not even on the victims, but instead focused around…. Prayer – and how offensive that is.
I kid you not.
Jen Psaki who was President Biden’s press secretary for a couple of years slammed those who called for prayers for the victims and their families “prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. Prayers do not make parents feel safe… enough with the thoughts and prayers – although previously, when it suits, she has called for “thoughts and prayers”.
She was rightly rebuked by the current President’s press secretary
And by the Vice-President JD Vance
The left-wing ABC reporter referred to “the name of President Trump written on the guns” without mentioning that the message was “k*ll Donald Trump”
In fact, fake news CNN called the shooter a ‘daughter’.
No wonder their ratings are going through the floor.
The New York Times went after “Conservatives” for pointing out the inconvenient truths.
The attacker in the Minneapolis school shooting filled hundreds of pages in her diaries,….
Ms. Westman’s notebooks were full of chaotic and disturbing ideas, often mixed with self-hatred. Given the sheer volume of her writing, she wrote relatively little about being transgender or about trans rights, while often going on long hate-filled rants about other aspects of her life. Her thoughts about being trans were often conflicting. “I don’t know if I am a trans girl,” she wrote in June. “It is undeniable that I like how I look in girl clothes. I like thinking about being a girl.”…
Chloe Cole, a conservative activist who returned to her female identity after living as a transgender teenager, suggested that such violence could be an outcome of social support for people who identify as transgender. Society is “lying to them, and telling them they were born wrong, yet we expect them to turn out normal?” she posted on the day of the attack.

The legacy media have no problem trying to identify Right-wing trends in crime. But when the ideology is on the other foot, they run screaming away from it….
Those were Catholic kids who were murdered for being Catholic by a trans radical. Why is that important? Because the ideology that lies behind trans, language that is routinely used by the trans radical community and now the entire Democratic Party, is an inherently violent ideology. It says that if you personally refuse to acknowledge that a man can become a woman, you have engaged in an act of violence.
And of course we know that’s true because this is what happened to Kirralie Smith – one of the speakers from Australia at our Forum on the Family last week.
She has been found guilty of “violence” for calling a bloke a….. bloke. I kid you not. But as she says, if you can redefine what a woman is, then the activists can redefine what violence is, to suit their agenda.
So how did our NZ media cover all this?
You probably already know the answer. Not well.
The NZ Herald was more interested with the mention of the Christchurch mosque terrorist
CNN chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst John Miller reported that the attack suspect, Robin Westman, posted a YouTube video which showed writings that contained anti-black, anti-Semitic and anti-religious messages. Westman had written homages on rifles to people such as the Christchurch mosque terrorist, Miller said. The 23-year-old suspect legally changed their name in 2020 and identified as female, court papers show.
Nothing to see here.
The following day, What we know about the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting, and one short mention…
Court documents show that Westman’s name was legally changed from Robert to Robin in 2020, after the assailant’s mother filed an application on behalf of her child. The court order reads that Westman, then a teenager, “identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification”, Dakota County court records show.
That’s it. Nothing more to see here.
The NZ Herald print edition on Saturday had NO mention of the shooting – instead focusing on a hit piece on Trump who wants to root out anti-American ideology, and Taylor Swift’s engagement. Riveting.
Nothing to see here. Nothing in the Herald on Sunday either.

Mary Westman, Robin Westman’s mother, applied for a name change for her child in 2019 from Robert Paul Westman to Robin M. Westman because her child “identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification,” the Washington Post reported.. Officials believed he acted alone and are investigating what he left behind that would speak to his motive.

The suspected shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, graduated from Annunciation Catholic’s grade school in 2017, CNN is reporting.
Their mother also had previously worked at the school from 2016 to 2021, the broadcaster said…
Police say the shooter then killed himself.

In 2020, a judge approved a petition, signed by Westman’s mother, asking for a name change from Robert to Robin, saying the petitioner “identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification.”
The gender identity seems pretty clear to me.

Which is a subtle way to say – don’t talk about the trans aspect – even if it’s very relevant.

…In one video that was about 10 minutes long, a cell phone camera panned to show a cache of weapons, ammunition and loaded magazines with sayings written on them, including “kill Donald Trump” and “Where is your God?” Some were written in Cyrillic.
Deep in the article they made this interesting admission
…The second notebook had a sticker on the inside cover depicting a semiautomatic AK-style rifle on top of a trans equality pride flag.

Here’s something our media didn’t tell you.

Just last month, Minnesota @LtGovFlanagan, a Democrat, wore a shirt with a threatening message in celebration of @GovTimWalz signing an executive order protecting the medical transitioning of minors. The “Protect Trans Kids” shirt featuring a combat knife is popular with far-left #trans militants, along with the “Trans Rights…or Else” weapons shirt.
The same rhetoric we see coming out of the Te Pati Maori activists.
In a follow-up article on 1News website, it said
Acting US Attorney Joe Thompson said videos and writings the shooter left behind show Westman “expressed hate toward almost every group imaginable.” Investigators have not yet found a clear motive for the attack on the church Westman once attended.
No clear motive??! It was all anti God, Jews, and Trump. So not “every group imaginable”. Not LGBT interestingly.
So if you can’t figure out the motive by now, you should probably lose your job.

You’re not going to be given all the facts because they need to protect the ideology and push a narrative.
But let’s check out the 6pm news on both 1News and ThreeNews
First, the state broadcaster
The focus is just on guns – not the user and their mental state and ideology – and hate for religion
Here’s two things the state broadcaster didn’t tell you
- The mayor Jacob Frey had no problem having thoughts and prayers at the casket of George Floyd. Once again, like Jen Psaki, the left aren’t that consistent.
- Tim Walz the governor who was that awful vice-presidential candidate with Kamala Harris is telling porkies.
According to media reports
Catholic schools begged Gov. Tim Walz to increase security before horrific shooting — and he did nothing. The letter asked Walz to ensure that nonpublic schools had access to funds earmarked for school security by a $50 million budget recommendation. Walz did nothing.
1News didn’t tell you that. But I will.
So as more info came in (which I read to you earlier), did 1News start reporting the real story?
Note the commentary from the reporter Logan Church – “their manifesto”.
And we’re back to how prayers are not acceptable as a response
They certainly don’t want to talk about the manifesto and the ideology of the shooter, do they.
In fact, on Saturday, 1News didn’t even cover it.
Nothing to see here.
And then our friends at ThreeNews…
No mention of the transgender aspect. Although ironically the presenter at the start does refer to the shooter as “his”. Is this misgendering?
“A presidential assassination attempt” – no, it said “Kill Donald Trump” specifically.
The following night, there was no risk of misgendering. It was “they wanted to watch children suffer” – they – just one of them – “their handgun jammed” – nope, his handgun jammed.
And it’s pretty clear what his motivation is, and who he hates – but apparently the authorities are still trying to figure out the motive. And it’s obviously not just children.
And then another report on Saturday night – once again playing down all the info I read you earlier that was reported by outlets such as DailyWire and the New York Post.
And for those who think that Newstalk ZB may be more conservative-thinking that other legacy media, maybe think again…
Have a listen to their correspondent – arguing that mention of transgender just plays into…. Politics.
Highlighting the possible causes and motivations is just “politics” – unless it’s a white supremacist, far right Nazi or an Islamaphobe, of course.
Across the ditch, some of their media were printing the truth. Sky News reported
…Westman, 23, later wrote that he regretted being trans and just wished he were a girl.
“I regret being trans.. I wish I was a girl I just know I cannot achieve that body with the technology we have today. I also can’t afford that,” he said.
“I like feeling sexy and cute but my face never matches how I feel. I hate my face… maybe that’s why I like furries so much. You can give yourself a new body and face. I want to be that black face mask on Beyonce’s body lmao!”..
… he seemed to have shrunk away from his new identity, scribbling on another page of the notebook “I don’t want to dress girly all the time but I guess sometimes I really like it. I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man.”
You won’t hear those aspects in the NZ coverage.
So what are we to make of all this.
The most important thing is that the media will not give you the full facts if it threatens their ongoing narrative on certain issues – climate alarmism, gender ideology, critical theory, identity politics, and many others.
That was quite evident from the coverage of this tragedy.
The Christian Post wrote an excellent article which said
This shooting isn’t an isolated incident. It’s part of a disturbing surge in violence against Christians and churches in America. According to Family Research Council, incidents of hostility against U.S. churches — including vandalism, arson, and gun violence — have skyrocketed, from 54 in 2018 to over 436 in 2023, with the trend continuing into 2025… Yet, when Christians are targeted, the response is muted compared to other groups. If this were an attack on a synagogue, we’d hear unified calls to combat antisemitism, and if on an LGBT venue, there’d be a crusade against homophobia. But for Christians? Crickets from the media and elites. This double standard stems from a deep-seated bias, as much of the mainstream media harbors disdain for biblical Christianity, viewing it as outdated or oppressive.
But they also said
We also can’t ignore a troubling pattern: There has been a meteoric increase in violent attacks carried out by individuals identifying as transgender. The Minneapolis shooter is only the latest example.
These cases highlight a deeper crisis: Transgender youth are emotionally unstable and some are clearly more prone to embracing violence — in part because they’ve been brainwashed and egged on by a radical transgender activist class in schools, the medical field, the media, and statehouses. Even Elon Musk is speaking out about it.
In a little over a decade, the LGBT movement went from suing a Christian cake artist for refusing to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding to shooting up Christian schools because they teach the biblical (and scientific) view that there are only two sexes. And people said that the slippery slope was a “fallacy.”..
Again, the real problem isn’t guns — it’s society’s affirmation of delusions, which can fuel justification for violence when reality clashes with fantasy.
And finally, RFK Jr made some interesting comments in response to the shooting. Have a watch.
The bottom line – which I keep reminding you – is that you can not trust the mainstream media.
Make sure that you have access to a number of sources of your information which you can then verify and ensure that it’s credible.
The media love talking about disinformation and misinformation.
Sadly, much of it is coming from them.
