Family First Comment: Ugh! The problem with a flawed law which exploits vulnerable women, and harms communities.
And this is the failure of government “control and regulation”!!

Concerns are mounting about a suburban Wellington brothel operating next to a children’s playground, where items including “meth bags” and needle wrappers have been found.

The brothel in Johnsonville has been operating since 2017, but local residents say the business has grown to a point where it is now posing significant safety concerns.

The residents allege some workers have been camping overnight in the car park next to the playground, and an increasing number of clients are using the car park as a waiting area.

The residents are also concerned the brothel is breaching the city council’s work-from-home rules for residential businesses, a claim now being investigated by the council.

A spokesman for the brothel denied its clients posed a safety concern, and said there was no link between the brothel and items found in the playground.

A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, wrote to the council in July expressing concerns about the brothel, including its location a few hundred metres from Raroa Normal Intermediate School.

She said there had been instances of night-time brothel clients mistakenly knocking on her door, and her neighbour, who lived alone, had been left shaken on several occasions by visitors “turning up at her door looking for sexual services”.

The resident said the business was causing onstreet parking problems, and young students were frequently forced to pass male clients waiting in their cars.
