The Abortion Trend The Media Won’t Report
The provisional data of the number of abortions for 2025 has just been obtained. What has happened to the number of abortions since politicians introduced one of the most radical abortion laws in the world in 2020 (when we were all going into lockdown to protect “the vulnerable”? Let’s take a deep breath – something that won’t be afforded to thousands of little children – and see how bad the figures are. This is information that the media are desperate not to tell you.
Show Script:
The Abortion Trend The Media Won’t Report
At the beginning of 2020, our politicians decriminalised abortion and introduced one of the most liberal and extreme laws in the world, effectively legalising abortion to 40 weeks with token safeguards.
And to prove how liberal the law is, you just have to look at the trend lines. I’ll come to that in a moment.
At the end of last year, the latest abortion report was released. And the provisional data for the most recent year has just been obtained also. Let’s take a deep breath – something that won’t be afforded to thousands of little children – and see how bad the report is.
This is information that the media are desperate not to tell you.
The Abortion Services Annual Report 2025 which records official data for 2024 was quietly released two weeks before Christmas. Deliberately. The Ministry of Health often release controversial info in the dead of night or when people are distracted – like the time they changed the information around puberty blockers and removed the false information that they were fully reversible.
They also release abortion stats quietly (and the media suddenly lose their voice on shouting about abortion) because, deep down, they know exactly what abortion is. The killing of an innocent unborn child.
What did the latest official data show? A massive jump in abortions from 13,246 in 2020 to almost 17,785 per year. That’s an extra 4,500+ on top of the rate when Jacinda introduced the radical new law.
This is a disturbing trend with the number of abortions increasing 34% since abortion was decriminalised and no signs of the numbers decreasing any time soon.
That means that on average, every day, almost 50 children are killed in the womb in New Zealand.
And you can see how abortions were decreasing through to about 2016 and then were static – but after the law change, up it started to go.
Here’s another excellent graph showing the trend. That act of kindness from Jacinda and the death cult in Parliament is obvious to see, isn’t it.
The ratio of abortions has increased since the law change from 18.6% to about 23.2% of known pregnancies ending in an abortion. Yes – almost 1 in 4 pregnancies end in death of the unborn child.
Disturbingly, Māori are disproportionately represented, accessing 27% of all abortion procedures in 2024.
According to the report, socioeconomic deprivation also remains a key indicator for differences in rate of abortion access. Those living in more socioeconomically deprived deciles tended to access abortion services at a greater rate. The higher the deprivation – in other words, the poorer the parents – the more likely for an abortion. The wealthier you are, the less likely you are to have an abortion. Does that mean that wealthy women don’t believe in abortion rights or “reproductive freedom”? Are they Trump voters!?
Nope – this is just one of the sad realities of abortion. Often the decision is made based on economics. We can’t afford a child. But abortion is not a solution. We need to support parents so that abortion is not an option. We need policies that give life! But our politicians have been focused on giving death.
This begs the question – what is the Government doing to support families and those facing pregnancy so that cost factors aren’t pressuring people to terminate their pregnancy.
In fact, have a look at this graph based on research done in the US.
You can see from admissions by the women themselves that the “real life” reasons for having an abortions are (shown on the left) “timing”, “financial constraints” “partner related issues” and even “focusing on other children” that were given a right to live.
Those are not good reasons for an unborn child to lose their life, is it.
On the right is the official recorded reason for the abortion, and similar to NZ, you can see just how rare (thankfully) rape and fetal abnormality is the reason for the abortion.
There’s a big push for medical abortions with phone consultations and telemedicine – abortions done at home. DIY abortions.
The blue line is early medical abortions, and the orange line is surgical abortions. Now if you think that early medical abortions sounds better, you need to watch Dr Norman MacLean on our YouTube channel explain exactly what they are and why early medical abortions are still problematic for the unborn child and for the woman. I’ll put the link in the explainer.
In fact, significant research last May coming out of the United States showed that almost one in nine women have had serious adverse events after taking the abortion pill, mifepristone. The report analysed the all-payer insurance claims database which included 865,727 prescribed mifepristone-induced abortions from 2017 to 2023. Over this period of time, the researchers discovered that 10.93 percent of women experienced sepsis, infection, haemorrhaging, or other serious adverse events within 45 days following the use of the abortion drug, mifepristone.
Here’s what the Ministry of Health tells women. “Very safe… Serious complications are rare.”
Sepsis, infection, haemorrhaging is not safe.
1 in 9 women is not rare when it comes to the health of pregnant women.
To continue saying the drug’s use is harmless is demonstrably false and putting women at risk of significant harm
But the Ministry of Health and abortion supporters think it’s just like UberEats where you get the medication and do it at home. No supervision. No support. Just like ordering pizza.
There has also been a 60%+ increase in late-term abortions (over 20 weeks) between 2020 (102) and 2024 (164) – despite claims that late term abortions wouldn’t be allowed except in exceptional circumstances. But the official Ministry of Health doesn’t report that. They just refer to “average gestation in weeks” which hides the extreme late term abortions.
It’s only because we were able to do an Official Information Act request that we were able to weed out this info.
But previous reports have admitted that it’s happening – that it’s a “Maori collective-endorsed practice”, that it will “enhance their rangatiratanga” while “exercising mana motuhake”, and “uphold their tikanga”.
So if some abortion supporter tells you there’s no late term abortion – don’t believe a word they say. Otherwise I have a bridge to sell you.
The report dedicates only a short one-page commentary on counselling and support for the women involved, and there is no mention of post-abortion regret or follow-up.
How convenient.
The report also acknowledges that there were 8 failed abortions – confirming our earlier data released in November showing that almost monthly, an unborn child is surviving an attempted abortion according to official government data.
The report has conveniently excluded information on the number of repeat abortions – which is usually reported. However, Ken Orr from Right to Life always sends off Official Information Act requests to draw out this information that the Ministry of Health is hiding.
And this is what it showed. The blue shows first time abortions, but the orange is a previous abortion, the grey is two previous aborteions, the yellow is three previous abortions, and there are even women who have had four or more abortions. The use of abortion as contraception should be disclosed – even if it’s an inconvenient truth.
And yes – only women can get pregnant – as all of us with a brain know. But as expected, the biologically-ignorant report refers to “females” only 17 times (woman = 0) but the term “person” or “people” is used 100 times – despite the biological fact that only women can get pregnant.
Now there is just one good part of the report.
Once again, this is information that the Ministry didn’t want to include, but Right to Life obtained through an OIA.
It says that the abortion workforce is just 414, consisting of just 130 so-called medical staff, 254 nurses, and, sorry to say, 30 midwives – although that’s 6 less than last year!
According to the previous year’s abortion report, the majority of the workforce were of European descent. Because Asian, Maori and Pacifika medical professional really don’t want to be part of this industry eh. Maori practitioners represent just 7.8% of providers (30 in total) and Pacifika practitioners have dropped from 17 to just 7. Brilliant!
Now to put that in perspective, there are 17,000 doctors in NZ and 58,000 nurses. So that abortion workforce represents 0.4% of the workforce. 99.6% want nothing to do with it.
Thank you!
Now just a couple of days ago, we received the updated numbers of abortion – based on an OIA again from Right to Life.
These are the provisional figures of how many unborn children were killed in the womb in 2025.
And the numbers continue to rise. A smaller increase but still an increase. Just under 18,000 abortions based on the provisional figures for last year.
A 36% increase since Jacinda’s ‘act of kindness’ to the unborn child.
On average, today, almost 50 children will lose their right to life.
Two classrooms of children.
Every day.
In the official documentary of Jacinda Ardern entitled “Prime Minister – Elected to serve. Inspired to lead.” the lowlight of the documentary was a very short section but almost tribute to the Abortion bill which Jacinda had champion and pushed through Parliament.
A “win” was liberalising the abortion law to allow this increase in abortions that we can see.
18,000 lives in one year.
Ironically, they conclude that section of the doco immediately following the passing of the abortion bill with a scene showing Jacinda’s daughter playing in the PM’s office immediately after the bill was passed which decriminalised the right to kill the unborn child.
The imaging was quite appalling.
Now you’re probably wondering what media coverage was there of the official abortion report last year or even these latest figures.
Well, after all the media shouting about Roe v Wade being overturned in the US, and the media going ballistic about whether Chris Luxon would revisit NZ’s abortion laws if he became PM – (they won that one, he cowered in the corner on that issue, sadly), now the media don’t want to talk about abortion.
By the way, when Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022 and the media went into apoplectic meltdown, they printed 135 stories on the issue in two weeks. 82% pro abortion.
But now the media have suddenly gone quiet as our abortion rates go through the roof.
Absolute silence. How convenient.
There wasn’t a peep – until a low news day just after new year. The taxpayer-funded Radio NZ published this story…
Abortion numbers rise since decriminalisation and launch of telehealth services
A sexual and reproductive health specialist says a recent rise in abortion numbers reflects improved access to care rather than an increase in demand. There has been a 37 percent increase since abortion was decriminalised … However, Magma Healthcare director Simon Snook said the increase likely coincided with the launch of DECIDE, the National Abortion Telehealth Service, in 2021. DECIDE can arrange an early medical abortion over the phone. The service is funded by Health New Zealand and run by Magma Healthcare and Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa.
You’re probable asking yourself – what is Magma Healthcare. Who is Simon Snook.
Answers – Abortion provider. Abortionist.
An organisation involved in the killing of the unborn child – but it’s where “healthcare feels human”. Just not the human in the womb.
Their founder Simon Snook was awarded the Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (NZOM) in the King’s New Years awards in 2024 for all his work in helping the killing of unborn children – ah sorry – ‘sexual and reproductive healthcare’. Just not healthcare for the baby.
I won’t put Dr in front of his name – because in my view it’s an insult to the medical profession who pledge the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm.
Yep – Radio NZ asked an abortionist not how much money they were making from abortions (which would have been a very good question) or what controls do they have in place to stop sex-selection abortions or to recognise coercion of vulnerable women to have abortions (another good question).
Nope – they asked an abortionist whether the rising abortion numbers were cool.
… “I think what we are seeing now is people who previously would have wanted an abortion and couldn’t get one for their own reasons are now getting it,” Snook said. “We are getting the abortion numbers correct for the country’s need.”…
The abortion numbers correct.
18,000 and growing.
50 per day and growing.
Sickening. He also said
“…there needed to be more funding,”
Bet you never saw that one coming. An abortionist who likes more abortions and wants more funding.
Sickening
But that’s the only narrative that taxpayer funded Radio NZ wants to push.
Anyone who has viewed the ultrasound of an unborn child will know that abortion is a gross abuse of human rights. It also creates inconsistency with other legislation and public health messaging which clearly recognises the rights of the unborn child.
Ironically, the report writers try to justify their own conscience by suggesting that earlier abortions are somehow more justified than later abortions – but that involves a tacit admission that there is a developing life involved. The only reason abortion supporters like early abortions is to try and appease their conscience.
We have a culture of death in New Zealand.
This graph proves it beyond doubt.
The media don’t want to talk about it – but we must.
